HSBL Gala Day 2018

After a day more suited to suntan lotion and sun hats rather than umbrellas, there are so many people and organisations to thank for today's Gala Day.

First and foremost, I must thank those who organised today's event: Louise Jarvis, Fiona Don, Marc Hoyle, Rod Saxby, Aaron Jarvis and Gene Wheeler. Rod put in an amazing effort, running the BBQ for the entire day, with help from his son, Hugh and David Wightman.

Thank you to M & J Butchery for the donation of meat and to Banjos Glenorchy for the donation of bread.

Thank you to Tanya and Abbie Freeman from Abbie for Autism, for helping with the BBQ.

Thank you to Emma and Moto Vecchia for supplying coffee.

Thank you to all who participated in the three games today, in particular our special guests Blair Brownless, Richard Robinson, David Bartlett and Darryn Perry.....and to Marc Hoyle for organising them.

Thank you to David Lipscombe and Nigel O'Brien for plate umpiring, to Jamie McIntyre for base umpiring.

Thank you to Jacob Stump for supplying the audio equipment and to Jenaya Rowe for being MC. Thank you to the Glenorchy Knights Soccer Club for allowing us access to their shed.

Thank you to the following for their kind donations for our raffle:

Jack Loves Red
Doctor Syntax
Scott Bacon MP
9/11 & Claremont Hotel
Garry Fewkes
Nick Fenton

Thank you to Colin Webber for taking photographs. Colin also gets praise, along with Ryan Fenton, for "the things they do for baseball".

Finally, thank you to all those spectators who attended and were very appreciative of the efforts of those who participated.

For the records, the Celebrities V Rookies game was amazingly a tie and the East won the latter game, Jimmy Clout hitting a home run to highlight the win.

The Gala Day will be run in conjunction with Abbie for Autism to raise money for Autism Awareness Australia

Schedule for the day is as follows:

10.30am: celebrities & rookies warm up

11am: Celebrities V Rookies game

12.30pm: Juniors game and children's activities

2pm: East of the Derwent V West of the Derwent

Celebrities on board include: Darryn Perry; Richard Robinson; Byron Howard; Kristy Johnson; David Bartlett; Blair Brownless; etc with the team to be expertly coached by Marc Hoyle whilst the "rookies" will be expertly coached by Aaron Jarvis.

Other things of note:

Moto Vecchia Cafe will be providing a coffee van

a raffle will be held on the day

as was the case with our previous Gala Day, we will be asking for a donation of $10 per player to participate in the East V West game

Following on from last season's event, this season's event will be bigger and better. See well known Hobart celebrities pitch their baseball prowess against local players. This will be followed by East V West and I have it on good authority the East won last season!! There will be children's activities and I believe a jolly guy in a red suit may drop in. More details as they are finalised. PS can Mayor Kristy Johnson get through the celebrity game without being injured?!!
